You can see the ocean and the sunset from every corner of the romantic, fanciful Villa Sheherazade, even from the shower. Virtually an entire wall of the luxury rental home is open to the sea breezes, and from its high perch in the hills of Corossol, it gives you the feeling of living in a fairy tale, high above and quite far away from the prosaic, everyday world. (The rooms can be closed off and air-conditioned, should weather require it.) Although you can see Gustavia in the distance, Villa Sheherazade is a seductive retreat with idyllic privacy.
As the name suggests, the house transports you into the world of Sheherazade, the storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights, conjuring visions of Aladdin and Ali Baba, and the love story that unfolds as she tells them to the king. There are subtle Arabic touches throughout the house, including softly textured, sand-color walls, light fixtures that suggest genies lamps, and a gently scalloped arch-shaped alcove above the king bed, as well as the mirrors and doorframes. Screens protect against unwanted flying visitors. The shower, while completely private, is open to the fresh air and overlooks the sea.
The living area is equally enticing, with a natural rock wall and a sinuous banquette couch that snakes along one wall and is piled with silk cushions. The sitting room blurs into the dining area and kitchen, where modern appliances help with cooking duties and the design is accented with artisanal lamps and tagines. Since both the living and the sleeping quarters are open to the outdoors, they have easy access to the long terrace, where the pool is nicely integrated into the rocks and the natural environment. The parking area, on a higher level, is blissfully out of sight.
