The Great River House is a stunning, private villa located on five acres of property inside a gated neighborhood. The Montego Bay vacation home underwent an intensive renovation in 2008 and a further updates in 2015. Today, the ocean-view Jamaican villa boasts a sophisticated interior and exterior and every modern amenity guests could possibly desire. The five-bedroom, 7,500-square-foot villa has five full bathrooms and two half baths. The home, originally built by a Dupont family member, is just minutes away from the elite Round Hill club. The home retains its classic roots while embracing the modernity of its more recent updates, masterminded by modernist architect Tom Reed.
The curved, saltwater pool is one of the major results of the 2015 redesign efforts. The pool has an infinity waterfall edge, a fountain, and a separate shallow section perfect for children. The cool, blue waters are surrounded by a stone deck, perfect for enjoying the view of Jamaica's verdant hills. Guests can also longue on the pool's sundeck or under the shaded poolside awning.
Active guests will jump at the chance to use the putting green and play rounds of badminton, bocce ball, and croquet. The Great River House also has a private tennis court with an on-call pro for guests who want to hone their skills. For guests who want to relax, the villa has a fire pit for late-night bonfires and a bar complete with an icemaker. Indoors, guests can use the complimentary Wi-Fi, watch cable TV, use the DVD player, listen to music using the wireless sound system, and enjoy Netflix, Pandora, and Spotify.
The Great River House is also a great place for children. The villa has a swing, books, and games for kids. Parents can also use the villa's high chair, car sets, and strollers.
Though group entertainment is a big part of the villa's allure, the Great River House also offers guests a chance to slip away for some peace and quiet. Duck into the private, side courtyard for an open-air shower or request a spa treatment.
The interior of the villa is filled with mahogany furniture and elegant artwork. Admire watercolor and oil paintings, as well as work done by illustrator Arthur Taylor. Each bathroom is decorated with beautiful water tiles.
When it comes to meals, the Great River House pulls out all of the stops. The villa's chef serves dinner in the dining room, or out on the pool terrace. Many of the meals incorporate fruit and herbs grown right on the villa's property. Please your palate with dishes like fresh fish, grilled lobster, and jerk chicken.
