Maui is very much welcoming visitors. The fire largely impacted the town and its immediate surroundings; Kaanapali and Kapalua to the north and Wailea in South Maui were unaffected. While there is still much to do, there are already signs of rebirth: Aloha Mixed Plate and Malu Tavern have reopened along the water on the north end of Front Street, and Safeway and other shops at the Lahaina Cannery Mall have also reopened. Maui needs visitors to help support the rebirth of the community. When you visit Maui, your dollars help support local jobs and services. So, yes, please come to Maui - it's still as beautiful and full of Aloha as ever, and responsible tourism is helping fuel Lahaina's full, long-term recovery.

Oahu enforces several taxes on vacation rentals: 1) a General Excise Tax of 4.712% and, 2) a Transient Accommodations Tax of 13.25%. In addition there will be a Departure Cleaning Fee, which vary in price depending on the size of the home; for longer stays, there are also Mid-Stay Cleaning fees. There may be other fees unique to each property, including propane and pool heating. Security deposits are generally handled with a credit card on file.

Vacation rentals are very in-demand on Maui. During lower traffic windows, Exotic Estates' Maui vacation rentals start as low as $500 per night and go up to $8,000 per night for high-end luxury properties. However, the average nightly rate is around $1,700, and the rates can go as high as $17,000 a night for elegant oceanfront estates during popular travel periods.

The general answer is "no," events involving guests not staying at the property are not permitted. Because vacation homes are often located in residential communities, there are strict rules governing noise, quiet hours, parking, and other items.
